RAAF Base Pearce upgrade
CPB Contractors was selected by the Australian Department of Defence to deliver upgrades to RAAF Base Pearce to support the introduction of the new Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft into service.
Located about 35 kilometres north of Perth, RAAF Base Pearce will be an important Forward Operating Base for the P-8A Poseidon as it conducts maritime operations over the Indian and Southern Oceans.
The upgrade included the extension of runways, new and upgraded construction of multiple Portland Cement Concrete Aprons, strengthening of taxiways and pavements and the provision of a new aircraft rinse facility.
CPB Contractors project team team delivering the project worked diligently to implement pragmatic and collaborative solutions and high-quality airfield works. Noteworthy achievements made during the delivery of the project include:
- Assisting with the design of the project’s airside works, including construction of a new Air Traffic Control Road
- Installation of more than 15,000m3 of rigid pavements to new runways, taxiways and aprons
- Placement of more than 15,000T of asphalt to new runways, taxiways, transition pavements and aprons
- Crushing, screening and reuse of recycled concrete as select fill
- Successful delivery of associated works including underground services, removal and replacement of materials and improvements to drainage in the area
